I sure hope I don’t offend anyone with this post. But, I didn’t name the fountain, and it absolutely fits the “odd & unusual” nature of my posts! I did think about disguising the name by using something like “sh!t” or “sh*t”, but that wouldn’t be authentic to the artist. And, besides that, I am a huge fan of irreverence. (I’m sure that will come as no surprise to those that know me!)

I typically find out about the places that I post here while browsing the Internet. I frequent a few “odd & unusual” sites, but this “attraction” came from an employee at a Rest Area on northbound Interstate 57 in Illinois, about 60 miles south of Chicago. I found more information through researching the Internet.

According to what I originally heard from the Rest Area employee, and confirmed by my research, the fountain was constructed by artist, Jerzy S. Kenar, (Wikipedia link) who owns the property and building behind the fountain. Residents who walked their dogs were reportedly not very good about cleaning up after their animals, nor did they keep their dogs from traipsing all over the flowers and ruining the curb appeal of the property. The fountain was erected as a tribute (?) to the dogs and as a reminder to pet owners to be responsible enough to clean up after their pets.

I’m not sure of the installation date of the fountain, but I did see references to it as early as 2005.

I am pretty adamant about only using my own photos on my site. All the photos on my site are my own. However, doing research for this post, I came across a site called, “Miss Chrystine.” I spoke earlier of my fondness for irreverence. I LOVED her photos! You can see what I mean by clicking the link above.
