Well, I started the trip with only ONE Eiffel Tower on the agenda, but now there are two!!! When doing research and talking to people about the Eiffel Tower in Paris, TX, I found out that there was a bit of a competition between the cities of Paris, TX and Paris, TN. The additional twist in that Paris, TX replica is the cowboy hat on top. As you can see below, the Paris, TN replica is more traditional. Now, of course, both replicas are dwarfed by the one in Las Vegas.

This one is located in “Memorial Park” and is surrounded with playground equipment, tennis courts, etc. that you would normally find in any city park in America. One thing that I find interesting is the lack of fanfare or decoration surrounding this (and most other) sites. There is very little signage or announcement of the location of the attraction.

And, once you get there, there is really nothing to give you information, history or background. Just the replica sitting in the park. It doesn’t even appear to be the focal point of the park, let alone the city.

With a little additional research, it seems there are 15 “Paris” cities, towns, etc. in the United States, I am thinking of setting a goal to visit all of them. As of this writing, I have visited 3: Paris, TX; Paris TN and Paris, IL. There is no page for Paris, IL as I couldn’t find anything that qualified as “odd & unusual.” The only claim to fame I could drum up was the fact that I grew up about 25 miles west of it. Not much of a claim, I know. By way of a disclaimer, I did not include “Perris, CA” in the count. It seems Perris, CA is named in honor of Fred T. Perris, chief engineer of the California Southern Railroad (Wikipedia). Sounds the same, but, in this case, spelling counts!

As always, THANK YOU for the visit. I welcome and appreciate comments (at the bottom of every page/post) and/or EMAILS. Please feel free to SUBSCRIBE (free or voluntary donation) to this site.
